The John Deere 8760 tractor is the middle child in the JD 8060 series of articulated pulling tractors. It’s smaller brother is the John Deere 8560 tractor while the John Deere 8960 is it’s bigger, more powerful brother. The JD 8760 tractor is far bigger than your average utility tractor. This tractor is designed specifically for large tillage/crop farmers. The wheel base of the tractor comes in at 3.4 m (134 inches), while it’s weight is also quite staggering at 14,558 kg (32,095 lbs). The wheels that support this weight (without allowing the tractor to sink!) are very big indeed. All wheels (front and back) are the same size. They each measure 20.8-38 (20.8 inch width, 38 inch rim diameter). Most of the time you will see farmers using dual wheels on the JD 8760.

The John Deere 8760 articulated tractor has a category 3 rear hitch. This hitch has a lifting capacity of 6323 kg (13,940 lbs) which is powered by it’s very large diesel engine. The engine is turbocharged and has a total displacement of 10.1 liters. The engine is a 6 cylinder model that is liquid cooled and has a total power output of 300 hp. It gives the hydraulics system a total flow rate of 126 liters per minute (33.3 US gallons per minute). The engine powers the wheels by transmitting power from the engine to the wheels through the same choice of gearboxes as on the John Deere 8960 and the John Deere 8560 tractors.

The first gearbox is the JD ‘Power Shift’ which gives the tractor 12 forward and 3 reverse gears, while the other choice is a JD PowrSync transmission that gives the driver double the amount of gears, 24 forward and 6 reverse speeds. The John Deere 8760 entered production in 1989 and ran for a total of 5 years until it was replaced with the John Deere 8770 tractor in 1993.
