The John Deere 8570 tractor is the smallest machine in the JD 8070 series of large articulated pulling tractors. The larger models in the series are the John Deere 8770, the John Deere 8870 and the John Deere 8970 tractors. While the JD 8570 is the ‘smallest’ machine in the series, it’s still incredibly big. It weighs 14,560 kg (32,100 lbs) which is not small by any means. The wheelbase of the tractor is 3.4 m (134 inches). A tractor this size needs large wheels to prevent it from sinking into the ground. All wheels on this tractor are the same size. They each measure 18.4-38 (18.4 inch width, 38 inch diameter). You will usually see the tractor with dual wheels attached.

The John Deere 8570 tractor is built on a 4×4 4WD chassis. It uses a turbocharged engine from John Deere to power it forwards. This is a 6 cylinder that uses a large liquid cooling system to prevent it from overheating. The liquid cooling system on the JD 8570 holds 54.9 liters of water. The turbocharged engine has a displacement of 7.6 liters and pumps out 250 hp. The engine fires at a compression ratio of 15.5 to 1. The engine is started using 12 volt batteries. The wheels receive power through one of two transmission systems. The first is a PowrSync partial power shift that gives the driver 24 gears going forward and 6 for driving backwards. The second option is a Syncro that gives the driver 12 gears going forwards and 3 for reversing. Both gearboxes use a hydraulic wet disc clutch for changing gears.

The John Deere 8570 has a hydraulic system that holds up to 143.8 liters (38 US gallons) of hydraulic fluid. The system operates at a flow rate of 169.6 liters per minute (44.8 US gallons per minute). This hydraulics system powers the category 3, three point hitch to have a maximum lifting capacity of 6794 kg (14,980 lbs).
