Craftsman LT3000

The Craftsman LT3000 garden tractor lawn mower is powered by a 20 hp gasoline engine. This engine is built by Briggs and Stratton. The engine is keystarted by a 12 volt battery that provides the engine with 230 cold cranking amps. This 12 V battery is then recharged via an alternator when the engine is ticking over. The engine transfers power to the wheels through a gearshift gearbox that has 6 speeds traveling forwards and 1 for reversing. This transmission gives the LT 3000 a top speed of 8.5 kph (5.3 mph) going forwards, while in reverse it’s top speed is just 2.4 kph (1.5 mph). The clutch which is used for changing gears also acts as a brake.

The mower deck on the Craftsman LT3000 has a cutting width of 42 inches which makes it suitable for lawns that range in sizes of up to 3 acres. Anything bigger than this and you will find it far less time consuming to purchase a tractor mower with a wider cutting width. The height of the mower deck is adjusted using a hand operated lever that is spring assisted. You have 2 choices for dealing with the grass clippings on the LT 3000. Many people just leave the waste clippings lying of the lawn after cutting. Unfortunately though, this looks very messy, so what a lot of people do is purchase a rear bagger to collect the grass clippings which leaves your lawn looking way neater.

Besides a rear bagger attachment for collecting the grass clippings, you can also use a snow blower as well as front blade on the Craftsman LT3000. This is particularly handy if you happen to be living in areas that get very cold during the winter time.Other similar tractor lawn mowers to this one include the Craftsman LT4000 and the Craftsman LT2000 lawn mowers.

    Very satisfied!

    Year of Manufacture: 2006
Pros: Very reliable. We’ve been cutting 7 acres with it for the past 7 years. We’ve replaced some parts, mostly belts, blades, maintenance items. We’ve had the same battery until this year. We went back and bought another Die Hard.
Attachments: Pulls a dump cart great! Gets lots of work done.

  3. Dennis says:

I have had this almost 5 years now, it always starts, and with regular care and maintenance it looks and runs great

    Year of Manufacture: 2005
Pros: Great mowers, easy to maneuver, great for pulling my dump trailer and Mine always starts, I can knock off about 1 acre in about 45 minutes ( I use 3rd and 4th speed). Never gives me any trouble, tune-ups are easy enough, and it is good on gas
Cons: Seat isn’t super comfortable, it can’t pull ground engaging equipment like a tiller, and anything that needs a sleeve hitch
Attachments: The Cub Cadet dump trailer I have can handle 600 lbs and the 20HP engine makes easy work of pulling it around the farm fully loaded.

Johnny Buckets has a great front loader that fits this model.

Modifications: I made a battering ram bumper…great for knocking down deep weeds and small saplings
