Bad Boy 6000 Lightning Z

The Bad Boy 6000 Lightning Z zero turn lawn mower is part of the Lightning Z series. This machine is the middle child of the series as it’s mower deck is 60 inches wide, while the smaller model is the Bad Boy 5200 Lightning Z which has a 52″ mower deck. The bigger brother is the massive Bad Boy 7200 Lightning Z zero turn lawnmower which has a 72 inch cutting width. The mower deck on the Lighting Z 6000 lawn mower has 3 blades, each of which is 20.5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. The blades have been developed from heat treated steel to keep them sharper for longer. These blades are powered by a belt drive system and are housed inside a deck that is fabricated from 1/4″ thick steel. The deck has a number of gauge wheels attached to it to keep it moving smoothly over the ground during operation. These wheels also help to prevent it from ‘scalping’ the lawn.

The operator can raise and lower the mower deck on the Bad Boy 6000 Lightning Z from a low of just 1.5 inches above the ground up to a height of 5 inches above the ground using an instant lift electronic actuator which gives the driver infinite cutting height positions.

The Bad Boy 6000 Lightning Z has a total of 4 different engine choices when you are first buying it new. The most powerful engine, provides the Lightning Z 6000 with 32 hp. This is a twin cylinder Vanguard model that has a total displacement of 0.895 liters. The next most powerful engine after this is a 31 hp Kawasaki. Less powerful again is a two cylinder Kohler Command engine that produces 30 hp. The least powerful of all the engines is a liquid cooled Kawasaki engine that produces just 26 hp from a displacement of 0.745 liters. Nothing but smiles. I drive it around just for fun!

    Year of Manufacture: 2008
Pros: I have never had an issue. This thing just runs and cuts. I bought mine after two friends with farms showed me how well it was built. Mine only has 70 hours, theirs 150 and 400 ( he owns a lawn service). We as a group have had no issues.

Every time I’ve called Badboy they have been great. Just need help understanding maintenance.

Love it so much I am buying another one for a different property next week.

Cons: Would like a sound shield behind the seat to deflect engine noise. Am custom making my own.

  2. Joe Paget says:

When it works, I like it. It is just embarrassing to get a friend to mow for me with his Toro zero turn from Home Depot. He has 116 trouble free hours on his, and he paid $6,000 less. I would not buy another Bad Boy.

    Year of Manufacture: 2011
Pros: I like that it lets you sit up a little higher.
    It is pretty fast.
    It is comfortable.
Cons: Not very well made, I have gone through 4 deck bearings and 2 idler pulleys in 117 hours.
The company does not seem to care that I have had to take it to the shop 3 times so far. I thought they would stand behind their product, but they will not fix it under warranty at this time.
