The Bad Boy 5200 Lightning Z is part of the Bad Boy Lightning Z series of zero turn lawn mowers that includes 2 other models, the Bad Boy 6000 Lightning Z and the Bad Boy 7200 Lightning Z lawnmowers. There is a choice of 2 different engines to power the 5200 Lightning Z lawnmower. The less powerful engine is a Kawasaki that produces just 26 hp from it’s twin cylinders. This engine has a total displacement of 0.745 liters and is liquid cooled. The more powerful engine is a Kohler Command model that is also a 2 cylinder gasoline powered engine. This engine is liquid cooled. Both engines use an automotive type air filter to clean the the fuel of impurities before it mixes with the air intake.

The Bad Boy 5200 Lightning Z zero turn lawn mower powers the rear wheels using the engine through a dual hydrostatic transmission system. This is a Hydro-Gear transmission that allows each rear wheel to have it’s speed and direction (backwards or forwards) controlled independent of the other rear wheel. This transmission system gives the 5200 Badboy Lightning Z zero turn lawn mower a top speed of 20.9 kph (13 mph) going forwards. It’s speed and steering is controlled by the lap bars in front of the driver.

The Bad Boy 5200 Lightning Z zero turn mower has it’s speed controlled using a drum braking system. The mower deck on the 5200 Lightning Z has a cutting width of 52 inches. This deck houses 3 blades that are each 18 inches long. The blades have a very long cutting life thanks to the fact that they have been heat treated. The mower deck uses a belt drive system to turn the blades and has a large cutting range of 3.5 inches, from a low of 1.5 inches to a high of 5 inches above the ground.
