The McCulloch M13597 garden tractor lawn mower is very similar to 3 other models, one of which is the McCulloch M13597H, which is identical, but it has a hydrostatic transmission. There is also the McCulloch M13597RB and the McCulloch M13597HRB garden tractor lawnmowers. These are both powered by the same engine, except they both come with rear baggers as standard to collect the grass clippings. The M13597 is powered by a Briggs and Stratton PowerBuilt engine. This is a 1 cylinder engine that produces 13.5 hp. The engine draws fuel from a tank that can hold up to 4.7 liters (1.2 US gallons) of gasoline.

This Briggs and Stratton engine powers the mower deck on the McCulloch M13597. This mower deck has a cutting width of 0.97 m (38 inches). The total width of the mower deck is actually 1.13 m (44.5 inches) which is mostly due to the protective plastic discharge flap which protrudes from the side of the deck. The blades are belt driven and manually engaged. They have a cutting height that ranges from 1.5 inches to 4 inches above the ground. The blades are raised and lowered in 0.5 inch increments. You can optionally purchase a rear bagger or mulching plug for the M13597.

The McCulloch M13597 has fairly large rear wheels which drive it forwards. These each measure 18×8.5-8 (18 inch diameter, 8.5 inch width, 8 inch rim diameter). The power from the engine gets to the rear wheels through a gearshift transmission that gives the M13597 seven speeds (6 going forward and 1 for reversing). The front wheels steer the lawnmower. These each measure 15×6-6 (15 inch diameter, 6 inch width, 6 inch rim diameter). The total weight of the machine comes to 180 kg (396.8 lbs). One of the safety features on this lawnmower is the seat; the moment the operator leaves the seat, the engine cuts out. You can also attach a snow blade or moss rake to the machine.
