The John Deere 8260R is the second smallest tractor in the 8R series from JD. The smallest tractor in the series is the John Deere 8235R, while the largest in the series is the John Deere 8360R. The engine that powers the JD 8260R forwards is PowerTech PSX engine that pumps out 260 hp. This 6 cylinder diesel engine uses dual turbochargers that use air to air after cooling and the engine also recirculates exhaust gas. The engine is prevented from overheating thanks to a liquid cooling system that has a capacity to hold up to 41 liters of water. The engine fires at a compression ratio of 16:1. Starting the engine in very cold winter days is fairly easy thanks to the option of a cold weather starting kit that includes an engine block heater and transmission fluid heater.

Power reaches the wheels on the John Deere 8260R through a choice of 2 transmissions: one choice is a JD automatic PowerShift gearbox that gives the tractor 16 forward gears and 4 gears for when it’s reversing. This gives the JD 8260R a top speed of 42.2 kph (26.2 mph). The second choice is probably also the easiest to use. It’s an infinitely variable transmission that gives the tractor infinite gears both going forwards and in reverse. With this transmission, it has a top speed of 50 kph (31 mph).

The John Deere 8260R is a very customizable tractor, so that most farmers will be able to choose exactly the add-ons and attachments that suit them. There are a large number of different light attachments that can be added to the tractor as well as a radio system. The JD 8260R is also compatible with a John Deere H480 front end loader. What most farmers will like is that the CommandView II cab can also be completely customized to suit specific needs from windscreen wipers to the foot throttle.
