The John Deere 790 is a farming tractor manufactured by John Deere. It also has a bigger version based on the 790, the John Deere 990.

The production of the John Deere 790 began in the year 2000 and lasted for seven years before being discontinued in 2007.

The 3 cylinder engine was designed and manufactured by Yanmar. John Deere played the role of a distributor in this case. It is a 30 HP engine which probably sounds low if you compare it with some of the other farming tractors. With the power being on the lesser side, the fuel storage capacity obviously doesn’t need to be very high and can store up to 24 liters of fuel. The engine has got natural aspiration and runs on diesel. Like most of the other tractors, the John Deere 790 has also got a liquid cooling system and has a coolant storage capacity of 4.7 liters. It has a dry air cleaner. It has an oil capacity of 4.1 liters.

The John Deere 790 has an unsynchronized type of transmission. It has got 2 reverse gears and 8 gears going forward. The transmission of this tractor is operated with the clutch, range shift lever and gear shift lever. In order to change the range of the gears or the gear itself, it is essential to halt the tractor and use clutch, which can sometimes be frustrating.

The shipping weight of the JD 790 is 1,930 lbs. It has got a wheelbase of 60.4 inches. It’s height is 51.2 inches while its length is 87.8 inches.

The John Deere 790 has got an impressive mower deck which has a cutting capacity of as wide as 60 inches. The weight of the mower deck is 325 lbs. It has also got a high standard loader. The height of the loader is 77 inches and it has a clearance range of 62.5 inches. The loader has a reach at ground of 46 inches.

The John Deere 790 has got manual steering as well as a hydrostatic power assist steering. It has got an independent dry shoe type of brakes. The 790 is equipped with 1 working battery.

One Review of the “John Deere 790”

  1. Mike Ring says:

The person who reviewed the tractor said that you have to stop the tractor to shift gears. Stopping the tractor is not necessary if you know how to double-clutch. That’s something I learned to do 65 years ago on my father’s farm.

    Year of Manufacture: 2000
Pros: Great tractor! I have 3273 hours on it and have had no problems other than replacing the seals on the front wheels a couple of times. We used it every day when we had our farm. I kept the tractor when we moved into town. We use it around the yard for landscaping duties. My tractor is not for sale!!
