The John Deere 4555 row crop tractor is from the same series of machines that include theĀ John Deere 4055 and the John Deere 4255 tractors. These tractors were all built during the late eighties and early nineties. Despite the long time since the last model rolled off the production line, the JD 4555 is still incredibly popular among farmers thanks mostly due to the fact that it has been constructed from high quality materials and parts. You will often see this tractor with dual wheels attached to give it extra traction and control.

Like many JD tractors from this time, the John Deere 4555 has a JD engine. This engine is a turbocharged diesel motor that produces up to 162.5 hp. The engine stays cool thanks to a liquid cooling system that needs to be filled with 30.3 liters of water from empty. The engine’s lubrication system has the capacity to hold up to 20.8 liters of oil. This John Deere engine fires at a compression ratio of 16:1. The engine has a dry type air filter that cleans the air intake, preventing particulate matter from getting into the combustion chambers. A set of two 12 volt batteries that supply 925 cold cranking amps is used to start the engine on the JD 4555. The engine has a 120 amp alternator which recharges the batteries when the engine is started.

The John Deere 4555 comes with a choice of either a 4X2 2WD chassis or a 4X4 MFWD 4WD chassis. The 4X2 2WD chassis uses a Quad Range transmission system to power the wheels. This Quad Range transmission gives the tractor 16 forward speeds and 6 reversing speeds. This machine weighs 7185 kg (15,840 lbs). The 4×4 MFWD 4WD chassis comes with a Power Shift transmission. This gearbox gives the JD 455 15 speeds traveling forward and 4 when reversing. The 4X4 MFWD 4WD tractor weighs in at 8053 kg (17,755 lbs).
