John Deere 4450

The John Deere 4450 is a tractor of the eighties, having been manufactured between 1983 and 1988 in the JD plant in Waterloo, Iowa. This highly regarded tractor is from the 50 series of tractors which included it’s younger bothers, the John Deere 4250 and the John Deere 4050. When this tractor did eventually stop getting made, the John Deere 4440 took it’s place. The JD 4450 is powered by a 6 cylinder John Deere designed and built engine. This turbocharged, 6 cylinder engine was a 7.6 liter beast that needed a 25.6 liter liquid cooling system to prevent it from overheating. The engine itself produced an impressive 140 hp, making it very adept at most pulling tasks.

The John Deere 4450’s engine sits on a choice of 2 chassis. An optional 4×4 MFWD 4WD or the standard 4X2 2WD chassis. The JD 4450 also had a choice of 2 distinct transmission systems when it was rolling off the assembly line. The first is a John Deere Power Shift transmission that gives the tractor 15 gears going forward and 4 when it’s reversing. The oil capacity of this transmission was either 51.1 liters for the 4WD chassis or 39.7 liters for the 2WD chassis. This gives it a top speed of 18.1 mph. The other transmission choice is a John Deere Quad Range transmission which gives it 16 gears when it’s moving forward and 6 gears while reversing. This transmission has an oil capacity of 60.6 liters. The Quad Range gives the JD 4450 a top speed of 17.3 mph.

The John Deere 4450 tractor’s length varies, depending on the type of chassis. The 4WD chassis gives it a total length of 4.16 m (164.1 inches) while the 2WD chassis gives it a slightly smaller length of 3.91 m (154.1 inches). The wheelbase on the JD 4450 also varies depending on the type of chassis. The 2WD chassis gives it a wheel base of 2.71 m (106.7 inches) while the 4 WD chassis gives it a wheelbase of 2.67 m (105.3 inches). The total operating weight of the John Deere 4450 is 6985 kg (15400 lbs).
