John Deere 2640

The John Deere 2640 tractor is part of the John Deere 2040 series that also includes the John Deere 2040 and the John Deere 2240 tractors. These utility tractors are fairly old (the latest machines came off the production line in 1983). However, they are still quite popular today and are still in use on farms thanks to John Deere’s quality construction and the fact that they can perform such a wide variety of different tasks. The JD 2640 comes with a category 2, 3 point hitch as standard which means that it can take a large range of different attachments.

The engine that powers the John Deere 2640 tractor is built in house by John Deere themselves. This tractor is liquid cooled and has a displacement of 4.5 liters. The engine is naturally aspirated and has a rated RPM of 2500. This engine powers the wheels through a choice of 2 different transmissions. One choice is a partial power sift gearbox that that gives the JD 2640 16 speeds going forwards and 8 for reversing. The other choice gives the JD 2640 8 speeds going forwards and 4 for reversing. The gears are changed using a dry disc clutch. The tractor has a fairly long operating time before it needs to be refilled thanks to a large 73.8 liter (19.5 US gallon) diesel tank.

The rear wheels on the John Deere 2640, which power it forwards and carry most of it’s weight each measure 16.9-28 (16.9 inch width, 28 inch rim diameter). The front wheels which are responsible for turning the tractor each measure 6-16 (6 inch width, 16 inch rim diameter). When using different attachments (loader, sprayer, etc), you will need to ballast the tractor. It’s max safe ballasted weight comes to 3823 kg (8430 lbs), while it’s regular operating weight is far lower at 2630 kg (5800 lbs). Please leave a review on this tractor below if you have ever owned or operated it.
