The Craftsman Professional 28hp 54″ garden tractor lawn mower is the second largest garden tractor available from Craftsman. The largest is the Craftsman 28985 Professional Premium 54″ 30 HP tractor mower. The main difference between the 2 is the size of the engines. Obviously the engine powering this lawn tractor produces 28hp. The engine itself is a Briggs and Stratton twin cylinder model. The engine has overhead valves and uses a fully pressurized lubrication system to keep it running smoothly. The engine is air cooled and has a total displacement of 0.81 liters. It is started using a 12 volt battery which supplies the engine with 230 cold cranking amps when you are starting it. The engine comes with a full 2 year warranty.

Power from the engine is transmitted to the wheels through a foot pedal operated hydrostatic transmission. The Craftsman Professional 54 inch 28 hp garden tractor also has cruise control so that operating it over long/large areas is that much easier. The lawnmower slows down using a set of disc brakes. Even though this 54 inch Craftsman lawnmower is a large one, it has a fiarly decent minimum turning radius of 21 inches. The fuel tank on the lawnmower has the capacity to hold up to 11.4 liters (3 US gallons) of gasoline.

The Craftsman Professional 28 hp lawn tractor is also sometimes known as the Craftsman 28984. It’s mower deck has a cutting width of 54 inches, as already mentioned. This deck can be adjusted up and down in increments of 0.25 inches. The lowest cutting height that it operates at is 1.5 inches above the ground, while it’s highest operating height is 4 inches. You can optionally collect the grass clippings behind you using a bagger attachment that needs to be purchased separately. There is also a sleeve hitch attachment that you can buy so that you can tow a range of other attachments too.
