There is the regular McCulloch M14597 lawnmower which drives the wheels using a gearshift transmission, while there is also a McCulloch M14597H garden tractor lawn mower which drives the rear wheels using a hydrostatic transmission. Other than their transmissions, these 2 models are practically identical. Then engine that powers both of these machines is a PowerBuilt motor from Briggs and Stratton. This engine produces a net power of 8.7 kW at 2500 rpm. This engine is keystarted using a 12 volt battery. It has a fuel tank that can hold up to 4.7 liters (1.2 US gallons) of gasoline.

Power from the engine gets to the mower deck on the McCulloch M14597 by being transferred through a belt drive system. The blades themselves are engaged using a manual PTO.
