The John Deere Z970A zero turn lawn mower is the largest and most powerful machine in the Pro 900 Series. It has a massive 72 inch cutting width and a 37 hp engine (something, you’d ususally find on a compact tractor!). The mower deck on the JD Z970A is a special comfort and convenience model which means that many of it’s controls are housed inside the operator bars for convenience. The deck itself is made from 7 gauge steel which has been stamped to give better durability and strength when compared to similar bolted or welded models. The 3 blades on the deck are belt driven and are engaged using an electric PTO. This PTO is activated and deactivated by simply pressing or pulling a small knob.
The mower deck on the John Deere Z970A can be raised and lowered through 3.5 inches, from a high of 5 inches above the ground to a low of 1.5 inches above the ground. It can be moved in small 0.25 inch increments so that you can always make very minute adjustments to the height of the lawn you are cutting. There are a total of 8 anti-scalping wheels attached to the outer extremities of the JD Z970A’s deck which keep it elevated above the ground and prevent it from scraping it or scratching it.
The engine that powers the John Deere Z970A zero turn lawnmower, as mentioned before provides 37 hp. This engine is a Kawasaki twin cylinder that has a total volume of 0.999 liters. The engine uses a fully pressurized lubrication system to make sure that all the moving parts remain working fluidly. The engine is air cooled and uses a single walled steel muffler to prevent excessive noise.
