John Deere Z925A

The John Deere Z925A zero turn lawnmower is another step up from the likes of the John Deere Z910A and the John Deere Z920A mowers which are also part of the Pro 900 Series from John Deere. There is a choice of 2 different mower decks for the JD Z925A. The first has a cutting width of 54 inches, while the second has a larger cutting width of 60 inches. Both mower decks are very tough, as they are made from stamped 7 gauge which makes the likelihood of it breaking, bending, deflecting or cracking quite unlikely. Both of these decks can be raised and lowered from a high of 5 inches down to a low of 1.5 inches above the ground. The 54 inch deck has the added benefit of being able to mulch on demand.

The heaviest that the John Deere Z925A weighs is 671.3 kg (1408 lbs) although this is with the 60 inch deck attached. Attached to the front of each mower deck is 4 gauge/anti-scalping wheels which act to prevent the deck or blades from catching the ground in front of it. The engine that powers the blades of the mower deck is a gasoline powered Kawasaki. This engine is air cooled and features a full pressure lubrication system to keep the engine running smoothly. This lubrication system also has an oil filter which is replaceable. The total power output from the Kawasaki is 27 hp. The engine has a total displacement of 0.852 liters. The engine is started by a 12 volt battery which supplies 300 cold cranking amps. The battery is then recharged via a 20 amp alternator.

The engine transfers power to the wheels of the John Deere Z925A through a Kanzaki dual hydrostatic transmission. This transmission system allows the operator of the JD Z925A to control how much power each rear wheel receives independently.

The 925 is not for the beginer. After using the mower for two summers I am very happy with it and will buy another JD when this one is worn out.

The seat suspension should be standard equiptment on this mower.

    Year of Manufacture: 2012
    Pros: CUTS GRASS VERY FAST
I had a 737 with a 54″ deck before getting the 925 with 54″ deck. The 925 cut 30 to45 minutes off grass cutting time. It can almost be used like a small bush hog. It will also blow leaves out of the yard in the fall.
Cons: The 925 has a very rough ride. I installed a seat suspension kit offered by JD. It made the ride a lot smoother. The mower should not be used on a small or well manicured lawn. It leaves divits in the grass because of the skid steering.
    Attachments: none
    Modifications: Seat suspension kit

Our overall experience is pretty negative – its just not a mower that anyone wants to use. We have an older Grasshopper 227 that doesn’t have any of these problems, and perhaps I should have gone that route. Working for a government agency has its disadvantages, one of those being mandatory/preferred contracts. The John Deere was recommended by numerous lawn care professionals, but I believe this is a newer model that may not be as well-tested.

    Year of Manufacture: 2013
    Pros: -It cuts grass
-It rides well on flat pavement…
Cons: -Very stiff ride, to the point that my staff doesn’t want to use it
-We have the mulch-on-demand option, and regardless of whether the baffles are up or down the mower throws debris from all sides of the deck, especially the front.
-Overall noise is quite loud, even with the blades off
-The deck needs to be re-engineered, as the blade pulleys are mounted in depressions that serve to collect dirt and grass very quickly. The fins on the bearing housings (below the pulleys) fill with dirt and are difficult to clean out due to their depth as well.
