While Massey Ferguson are well known for making a quality range of tractors, they also have a solid reputation for building mowers, both garden tractor mowers like the Massey Ferguson 2520H and the Massey Ferguson 2518H lawnmowers as well as the Massey Ferguson ZT2450 zero turn lawnmower. The MFZT2450 zero turn mower uses an Extended Life Series engine from Briggs and Stratton. This 2 cylinder, overhead valve engine has a power output of 24 hp. This engine then uses a dual hydrostatic transmission, the Hydro-Gear ZT2800 transmission to transfer power from the engine to each rear wheel independent of the other.

The amount of power that each rear wheel receives is controlled by the lap bars in front of the driver. By engaging one rear wheel to move forwards while simultaneously engaging the other wheel to reverse, the Massey Ferguson ZT2450 can turn on a dime and make zero radius turns. Going forwards, the MF ZT2450 has a top speed of 11.3 kph (7 mph), while in reverse, it’s max speed is 8 kph (5 mph). The size of the rear wheels comes to 20×8-10 (20 inch diameter, 8 inch width, 10 inch rim diameter) while the front wheels are considerably smaller, measuring 11×4-5 (11 inch diameter, 4 inch width, 5 inch rim diameter). The front wheels are much smaller than the rear wheels due to the fact that the rear wheels are carrying most of the weight of the tractor, while the front wheels act merely to prevent the mower deck from hitting into the ground.

The Massey Ferguson ZT2450 has a 50 inch cutting width on it’s mower deck. This 3 bladed mower deck can operate at 7 different positions, from a low of 1.5 inches above the ground to a high of 4.5 inches above the ground. You will also notice small anti-scalping wheels located on the front of the mower deck to prevent it from digging into the lawn while you are cutting the lawn.
