The John Deere Z720A zero turn lawnmower is very similar to the John Deere Z710A zero turn mower except that the JD 720A is a bit bigger. Both mowers are part of the 700 Series from the guys at JD. The engine that powers the Z720 A mower is a Kohler CV730. The engine produces 25 hp from it’s 2 cylinders. The total displacement of the engine comes to 0.725 liters. The engine has a full pressure lubrication system and a replaceable oil filter. The Kohler CV730 is air cooled and uses a dual stage, heavy duty air filter to prevent dust and other particulate matter from getting into the combustion chambers. The air intake passes through a pre cleaner filter before reaching the dual stage filter.

The John Deere Z720A has a mower deck that has a 60 inch cutting width. The deck itself is part of JD’s super tough ‘7 Iron II’ series. This means that the deck is made from stamped 7 gauge steel. The deck can be raised as high as 5 inches above the ground and as low as 1.5 inches over very small 0.25 inch increments. In total, the deck houses 3 cutting blades. The mower deck on the JD Z720A has 4 small gauge wheels located on the front of the deck (2 in the middle and one on either side). As the deck is ‘floating’ this means that the wheels guide the deck and force it to follow the contours of the ground that it’s traveling over.

The John Deere Z720A zero turn lawnmower is started by a 12 volt battery that supplies the engine with 340 cold cranking amps. This battery is then recharged via a 15 amp alternator. The JD Z720A has a very impressive top speed of 16.1 kph (10 mph) when traveling forwards while in reverse it has a max speed of 7.2 kph (4.5 mph).
