The John Deere 435 tractor is quite like the John Deere 310 tractor as both machines are not the most well known. They both had very short production runs of 2 years and they are both very old; the JD 435 was built from 1959 until 1960. This tractor is built on a 4X2 2WD chassis which means that the rear wheels power it, while the front wheels are responsible for steering it. The engine that powers the rear wheels is a 2-53 model that is designed and built by General Motors. This engine is a supercharged diesel motor that produces a maximum output of 32.9 hp. The engine has a liquid cooling system which needs to be filled with 9.5 liters of water to fully fill it. This twin cylinder engine fires at a compression ratio of 17 to 1 and uses an oil bath to clean the air intake of potential contaminants. The engine has the capacity to hold up to 8.5 liters of oil.

There is a choice of 2 very simple transmission systems for the John Deere 435 tractor. The larger is a 5 forward/1 reverse setup that gives the tractor a top speed of 21.7 kph (13.5 mph). The smaller gearbox gives the JD 435 4 forward gears and just a single one for reversing. This gives the tractor the same top speed of 21.7 kph (13.5 mph).

Compared to your average utility tractor nowadays, the John Deere 435 is not very big at all. It weighs just 1701 kg (3750 lbs) and is 3.45 m long. The JD 435 has a category 1, three point hitch to which a wide variety of implements can be attached. The tractor originally came with an open operator station. The fuel tank on the tractor can hold up to 39.7 liters (10.5 US gallons) of diesel. While this was a mid sized tractor when it first appeared in the late fifties, today the most similar tractor would be a compact utility tractor.
