The John Deere 20A is from the A series of tractors that John Deere produce which are intended primarily for use in small nurseries, gardens and greenhouses. You’ll notice immediately that this tractor is shaped very differently when compared to other tractors and lawn mowers of the same size. The most distinguishing feature of the tractor is that it’s articulated which is what allows it to take very tight turns, giving the JD 20A a minimum turning radius of just 1.2 m (47 inches).

The John Deere 20A gets it’s power from a Lombardini 12LD475-2 engine that has an output of 21 hp. This diesel powered engine is air cooled and has the capacity to hold up to 3 liters of oil for lubrication. The 2 cylinder engine has natural aspiration and a total displacement of 0.954 liters. Power from the engine is transferred to the wheels through a heavy duty transmission that gives the tractor 6 gears when traveling forwards and 3 for reversing. A dry disc clutch is used to change the gears. The top speed of the JD 20A comes to 17.1 kph (10.6 mph). The fuel tank has the capacity to hold up to 22.7 liters (6 US gallons) of diesel.

The John Deere 20A can accommodate a number of different implements, thanks to it’s category 1/1N, 3 point hitch. This 3 point hitch has a maximum safe lifting capacity of 498 kg (1100 lbs). The open center hydraulics system is an open center type that has a capacity of 6.4 liters. The hydraulics system has a maximum operation pressure for implements of 125 bar (1814 psi), while the steering has a maximum operating pressure of 90 bar (1306 psi). The JD 20A is a MFWD and has a total weight of 750 kg (1654 lbs) when it’s being shipped. It has a wheelbase of 0.99 m (39.3 inches) and a total length of 2.48 m (98 inches).
