Cub Cadet SLT1554

The Cub Cadet SLT1554 garden tractor lawn mower is not in current production by Cub Cadet. It is a quality piece of machinery with a mower deck that has a cutting width of 54 inches (but you hopefully already guessed this from the name). The mower deck on the SLT 1554 lawnmower houses 3 blades. These blades are belt driven and are engaged using an electric PTO. The mower deck has a number of anti scalping wheels attached to the outer rim which travel over the ground and make sure that the deck does not scrape or scratch the ground. While the standard way for dealing with the grass clippings is to just discharge them out the side of the deck, you can also purchase an optional mulcher or rear bagger as well.

The engine that powers the mower deck on the Cub Cadet SLT1554 lawn mower is a Kohler Courage model. This is a twin cylinder engine that uses a full pressure lubrication system to keep everything working smoothly. The capacity of the oil reservoir is 1.9 liters. The engine is key started with a 12 volt battery that supplies the engine with 235 cold cranking amps. Once the engine is running, the battery gets recharged through a 15 amp alternator.

Thanks to a hydrostatic transmission, the Cub Cadet SLT1554 lawn tractor is an automatic with no need for gear changing. The hydrostatic transmission allows it to reach a top speed of up to 8.4 kph (5.2 mph) going forward. In many ways the SLT 1554 tractor lawn mower is very similar to the Cub Cadet GT1554 as they both have the same cutting width and the same max power outputs from their engines. The minimum turning radius of the Cub Cadet SLT 1554 is 21 inches when you are using the disc brakes.

    Year of Manufacture: 2012
Pros: great output from deck, no clumping of grass
Cons: transmission heats up quickly then wont go uphill even a minor grade
