Cub Cadet LT1040

The Cub Cadet LT1040 garden tractor lawn mower has a 12 gauge steel frame. Inside this frame there is a Courage engine from Kohler powering it. This engine is a single cylinder model that produces 18 hp. The engine keeps itself properly oiled thanks to a full pressure lubrication system that helps to prevent it from seizing up or wearing too quickly. The air intake into the engine is first passed through a standard air filter which captures dust and other small particles that could possibly clog the engine and reduce it’s performance. The engine is gasoline powered and it passes power to the rear wheels through a continuously variable transmission that gives it a top speed of 8.4 kph (5.2 mph) traveling forwards and a speed of 3.7 kph (2.3 mph) when it’s reversing. The LT 1040 also has cruise control as standard.

You should have already guessed from the name, that the Cub Cadet LT1040 lawn mower has a mower deck with a cutting width of 40 inches. This mower deck can be raised from a low of 1 inch above the ground to a high of 4 inches over a total of 6 different cutting heights that each vary by roughly 0.5 inches. This deck has a number of small plastic anti scalping gauge wheels attached to it so that mowing deck doesn’t scalp the ground as you travel over it. Thanks to the dry disc brakes on the LT 1040 lawn mower, you can quickly slow it down. The fuel tank on the LT 1040 has an 11.4 liters (3 US gallon) capacity.

The Cub Cadet LT1040 garden tractor lawn mower is the smallest machine in a range that includes the Cub Cadet LT1046, the Cub Cadet LT1045 and the Cub Cadet LT1042 ride on lawnmowers. 1. Mike Cramer says:

Buy a three blade mower or go home. I would not buy this model again. twin cylinder and three blades are very critical to satisfaction. Get a larger mower and spend more money and be happy.

Pros: Kohler engine seems to run good

    maintenance is reasonably easy

Cons: 2 blade mower deck leaves streaks especially when turning.
