Craftsman ZTS7000 21 HP 42 Inch Zero Turn Lawn Mower

The Craftsman 7800753 21 HP 42 Inch Zero Turn Lawn Mower is also know as the ZTS7000 lawn mower. The mower deck on this model uses 2 blades in a hanging mower deck. The advantages of using a frame hung deck is that it follows the contours of your lawn better than a fixed deck thanks to the 2 gauge wheels which are attached to the leading edge of the mowing deck. The deck can be raised and lower over 2.25 inches from a low of 1.5 inches above the ground to a high of 3.75 inches. The blades are housed in a 14 gauge steel deck. The discharge flap which is made from plastic is located on the right hand side of the deck. This adds about 10 inches to the total width of the deck.

The blades on the Craftsman ZTS 7000 are belt driven using the 21 horse power from the Briggs and Stratton engine. This single cylinder motor has a fully pressurized lubrication system to keep it fully lubricated throughout operation. The engine features overhead valves and a cartridge type air filter which prevents dust and other particulate matter from entering into the combustion chambers during operation. The engine transfers power to the rear wheels of the ZTS7000 through a dual hydrostatic transmission. This gives the lawnmower a top speed of (6 mph) going forward, while in reverse it has a top speed of (3 mph).

If you are looking for larger zero turn lawn mowers from Craftsman, then you are in luck, they have 2 much bigger ones, the Craftsman 7800690 26 HP 52 Inch zero turn lawnmower and the Craftsman Professional 52″ 24hp zero turn lawnmower. If you have ever owned or used a Craftsman ZTS7000 zero turn lawn mower then please leave your thoughts on it below to give others an idea what is good and what is not so good about it.

Outstanding mower when it’s running. I’m a little eccentric when it comes to maintenance. Maybe too much, I believe if you spend a lot of money for something you want it to last. I hope I did the right thing by investing in a new motor, $570.00. and 6 hours of labor to switch it out. I not a mechanic just mechanically inclined. During the Viet Name Conflict I worked on the Catapults and the Arresting Gear on the USS America. 1969 through 1972.

    Year of Manufacture: 2009
Pros: When I purchased it in 2009 I thought it was the best investment I made in a long time. Cuts the lawn even and with less effort and time.
Cons: I hope you are sitting down for this. About 2 years after I purchased it the head gasket went. Not difficult to replace, the only thing was it took a lot of time trouble shooting before I was able to figure out the problem. I replaced the gasket and we were back in business. While I was doing the work I happen to notice that 2 of the engine mounting bolts had sheared off, that took some doing to drill and tap them for replacement bolts. I used through bolts that are threaded into the motor and then bolted the extruding bolt with locking nuts. Then about a year later the stud the holds the rocker arm backed out. What a noise, I thought a helicopter was circling above. I fix that and was back cutting the grass in a half hour. Now I’ve had the mower for about for 7 years and it was hard to start, so off came the valve cover to adjust the valve lash. No good. Still hard to start, here comes the new battery. Nope, it’s the came shaft. GOOD BYE MOTOR. I put a new one in. We are back!!!!
