Bad Boy 5400 Outlaw Extreme

The Bad Boy 5400 Outlaw Extreme zero turn lawn mower is similar to the Bad Boy 5400 Outlaw zero turn lawnmower as they both have the same cutting width of 54 inches. However, the engine powering the Badboy 5400 lawnmower is slightly more powerful. This is thanks to a 31 hp Kawasaki engine. The engine is a twin cylinder model that is air cooled and has a displacement of 0.85 liters. The engine uses gasoline and has a automotive type filter to prevent small particles in the fuel tank from getting into the engine where they can potentially diminish it’s performance. The engine is started electronically using a 12 volt battery that then gets recharged via a 20 amp alternator once the engine is running.

The engine powers the rear wheels on the Bad Boy 5400 Outlaw Extreme zero turn mower through a hydrostatic transmission system. This means no gear changing and using the lap bars in front of you to either speed up or slow down or turn the vehicle. The rear wheels on the 5400 Badboy are responsible for driving and turning it as well as carrying the bulk of it’s weight. This is why they are much bigger at 24×12-10 (24 inch diameter, 12 inch width, 10 inch rim diameter) while the front wheels, which carry far less weight each measure only 13×6.5-6 (13 inch diameter, 6.5 inch width, 6 inch rim diameter).

The mower deck on the Bad Boy 5400 Outlaw Extreme lawnmower is 54 inches wide. The deck can be adjusted from a low of just one inch above the ground to a high of 5.5 inches above the ground. Inside the deck, there are three, 18.75 inch long blades. These blades are made from quarter inch thick steel that has been heat treated to give it a longer operating life. This is a terrible mower. Please do not buy. My mower is only two months old and has failed several times. when i cut it leaves random uncut gass causing me to mow the same area twice. Tires are crappy. punctured the sidewall twice. How could this happen. never in my lifetime have i ever punctured the sidewall of a tire on a lawn mower. Yesterday was the sixth attempt i made to mow my lawn. when i powered the blades on the engine binded to near a complete stop. i figured there may have been something caught in the deck. after thorough inspection i noticed the blades moved freely by hand with the engine stopped. haven’t figured this one out yet. This mower really sucks!

Poor, would never ever recommend this company.

    Year of Manufacture: 2012
Pros: it works & cuts grass
Cons: complete junk. First its easy to overlook but the rear tire size unlike any other mower on the market and replacement tires are hard to come by except from badboy. The tires they carry are junk that barely grip pavement. The reason this is a problem is that they use a 10″ rim with a 24″ or larger rim. This creates a balloon like side wall that is prone to puncture and allows for a lot of lateral movement in the tire. Of course badboy uses a different bolt pattern than any other manufacturer so you cant fix this issue with a properly sized 12′ rim. Second, It has broken down & been back to bad boy 3 times in 160 hours for major repair, 1 hydro pump, 2 failed welds on the deck & frame. I had to argue & threaten involvement of an attorney to get the repairs competed under warranty. Dealer support is awful because the manufacture support is garbage. It took them two weeks to ship my hydro mower from Ark to VA as a warranty repair. Never mind this is their commercial line and I use this mower to feed my family. In the end my dealer discontinued the line because of the crap company badboy is. There is nothing more expensive than regret… I should have just bought another SCAG, the first two have 5k hours & have never seen the shop for major repair. You get what you pay for,,, spent the extra 4 grand & buy a decent mower.
