John Deere 5085M

The John Deere 5085M utility tractor is put together in JD’s US assembly plant in Augusta, Georgia. The utility tractor gets it’s power from a PowerTech M4045 diesel engine that John Deere build in house. The 4 cylinder engine is turbocharged and provides 85 hp. It uses a liquid cooling system that has a capacity to hold 11.4 liters of water. The engine is started using a 12 volt battery. The battery is charged by a 70 amp alternator on the 5085M model with just a ROPS, while on the 5085M model with a cab, there is a 90 amp alternator. There are a number of different types of transmissions that you are able to get with the JD 5085M when you are buying it brand new. These are a PowrReverser, SyncShuttle Plus, SyncReverser and PowrReverser Plus. Each of these transmissions gives the tractor a decent number of forward and reversing gears.

The maximum rear lifting capacity of the category 2, 3 point hitch on the John Deere 5085M is 2041 kg (4498 lbs). There are also a number of attachments that can be used with the JD 5085M. These include disc mowers, hay mergers, wheel rakes, rotary brooms, sprayers, box blades, core aerators, landscape rakes, soil pulverizers, wood chippers, manure spreaders, backhoes, front end loaders, a variety of mowers, seeding and snow removal equipment.

If you require a machine that is capable of a large variety of jobs then you should definitely consider the John Deere 5085M. But don’t just choose the JD 5085M because of the long list of attachments that it is compatible with. The fact that it’s a John Deere should also appeal to you as it is a name you can trust in farming. If you are looking for similar but not quite as powerful tractors from JD, then take a look at the John Deere 5075M or the John Deere 5083E utility tractor.

Very disappointed in the tractor. Getting a JD with cab was on my bucket list. Evidently my bucket had a hole in it.

    Year of Manufacture: 2015
Pros: Good a/c,turns short for its size
Cons: clutch son’t engage if not pushed all the way down, and sometimes just freesheels on its own
    Attachments: loader

I like the tractor’s performance and its fuel economy for the size of the unit. I’m not happy with the electronic MFWD engagement. Thus far, the electronics have been good. However, the hydraulics have been very expensive to support with only moderate hours of use.

    Year of Manufacture: 2013
Pros: The tractor has lots of power and starts well. I love the rear-mounted 3-point control buttons that allow raising or lowering the 3-point from outside the operator station. The cab is comfortable and well structured. The AC is ice-cold.
Cons: The MWFD control setting for auto-engagement has a habit of being very jerky and will engage at odd times. Turning it off completely doesn’t seem to always work. Leaving it 100% engaged works very well in the winter time, but is difficult in fair weather for steering and general operation. The brakes are soft and require a double-clutch to act firmly. The hydrostatic pump went out at about 1500 hours. Getting a replacement meant waiting for one to be shipped from the factory in Germany. That would seem to indicate that it is a popular failure. The column-mounted forward and reverser is awkward with the conjunction of the clutch and gearing. It is not a hydrostatic driven unit, why they want to try to complicate operations in this fashion is a mystery.
