John Deere 1840

The John Deere 1840 tractor was sold throughout Canada. It’s American equivalent (or twin brother as some call is!) is the John Deere 2440 tractor. Both machines are very similar. The JD 1840 first started production at the start of the eighties in 1980. The engine that powers it is a 4 cylinder diesel. This engine has a maximum power output of 60 hp. The engine is liquid cooled with a capacity to hold up to 11.4 liters of water. The total displacement of the engine is 3.6 liters. The engine is keystarted via a 12 volt battery. The engine powers the wheels on the tractor through either an 8 forward/4 reverse transmission or a 16 forward/8 reverse transmission setup.

The engine on the John Deere 1840 also powers the hydraulic system. This is a closed hydraulic system that has a valve flow rate of 22.7 liters per minute. The total capacity of the hydraulic system is 37.9 liters (10 US gallons). The hydraulic system powers the rear three point hitch on the tractor which is a category 2. The fuel tank on the JD 1840 can hold up to 73.8 liters (19.5 US gallons) of diesel. Like most JD tractors, you can buy this one with either a 4X2 2WD chassis or a 4X4 MFWD 4WD chassis depending on the functionality that you want.

The rear wheels on the John Deere 1840 each measure 16.9-28 (16.9 inch width, 28 inch rim diameter). The front wheels are 6-16 (6 inch width, 16 inch rim diameter). The total weight of the JD 1840 comes to 2154 kg (4750 lbs). The tractor uses a set of wet disc brakes to control it’s speed.
