Massey Ferguson 1010

The Massey Ferguson 1010 is a small compact farm tractor designed and built by MF. It enjoyed a massive run of 12 years on the production line from 1982 up until 1994. As this production time was so long, many variants arose. These included a Massey Ferguson 1010-2, which is a 2WD, gear drive tractor, a Massey Ferguson 1010-4, which is a 4WD, gear drive tractor, a Massey Ferguson 1010H-2, which is a 2WD tractor with a hydrostatic transmission and a Massey Ferguson 1010H-4, which is a 4WD tractor with a hydrostatic transmission box.

These tractors all came with a Toyosha diesel engine. This is a 3 cylinder, 0.9 liter engine that produces 16 hp. The transmission that comes with the Massey Ferguson 1010 was one of 2 choices. The MF1010-H models come with a hydrostatic transmission (hence the ‘h’) that gives the tractor infinite speeds going forward and infinite in reverse also. Rather than using a gear stick on on these tractors with a hydrostatic transmission, you just need to step on the pedals a little harder to speed up or ease off them to slow down. The regular MF 1010 models come with a transmission that gives them 6 gears going forward and 2 in reverse.

The engine on the Massey Ferguson 1010 sits on a choice of chassis, either a 4×2 2WD chassis or a 4×4 MFWD 4×4 chassis. The tractor has a category 1, 3 point hitch that has a reasonable rear lifting capacity given it’s size. Unlike a lot of older Massey Ferguson tractors, the MF 1010 comes with a ROPS (roll bar) as standard to protect the operator in case of tipping. The total weight of the MF 1010 comes to 907 kg (2000 lbs) when it’s being shipped, but obviously this weight can vary depending on what type of transmission is installed and what chassis is being used and whether or not it’s using and attachments or ballast.

One Review of the “Massey Ferguson 1010”

  1. John says:

I have had very good luck with this little tractor, but it is a little tractor.

    Year of Manufacture: 1985
Pros: with a 4 ft. mower I have mowed over trees up to 2 inches in diameter. I take the tractor to my hunting camp and mow. It is perfect for mowing trails and getting in tight places in between trees. I bought this tractor from my brother about 12 years ago. he owned it for about 5 years. I have put this little work horse in some rough places and it just keeps going. I have recently had some radiator issues which is the first time I have had to spend money on repairs on this tractor since I have owned it. this is a very tough tractor and with regular maintanance it will last a long time.
Cons: I have a 2 wheel drive model and it does not have much traction. the turf tires that are on it will get stuck on wet grass. When I put a box blade on the back I can’t pull much. Remember this is a small tractor and it is great for small jobs. If you plan on doing something major then get a big tractor or it will take you awhile.
