The Kubota M5640SU special utility tractor is part of the very large M series of tractors from Kubota. The engine that powers the M 5640 SU is designed and built in house by Kubota as are most engines in current Kubota tractors. This is a V2403-T E-TVCS engine that is fueled with diesel. The 4 cylinder engine has a total size of 2.434 liters and power output of 56 hp. This turbo charged engine is liquid cooled and gets diesel from a fuel tank that can hold up to 50 liters (13.1 US gallons) of diesel. The engine is equipped with a dry type, dual element air filter which prevents dust and other small particles from getting into the combustion chamber and clogging the engine. The engine is started by a 12 volt battery system. This battery is recharged by a 40 amp alternator once the engine is up and running.
The engine on the Kubota M5640SU tractor passes power to the wheels through a gearshift transmission. This gearbox gives the M 5640SU 8 gears when traveling forwards and 4 for when it’s reversing. This transmission uses a dry single plate clutch to change gears. The engine on the tractor also powers the rear PTO which has a rated speed of 540 rpm.
The other important thing that the engine on the Kubota M5640SU powers is the hydraulics system, which is responsible for powering the backhoe and the front loader. The hydraulics system gives the 3 point hitch at the rear a maximum lifting capacity of 1500 kg (3310 lbs). When buying the M5640SU brand new you have a choice of getting it with either a category 1 or category 2 3 point hitch. The weight of this tractor varies between 1700 kg (3747 lbs) and 1750 kg (3858 lbs). The Kubota M7040SU tractor is very similar to this one except that it’s a little bit more powerful.
