John Deere LX186

The John Deere LX186 garden tractor lawn mower is a fairly large offering from John Deere that was first introduced over 20 years ago. The construction of this John Deere lawn mower took place in Horicon in Wisconsin. The JD LX186 is powered by a 17 hp Kawasaki engine that is fueled by gasoline (or petrol for those in Europe). A dual, foam and paper air filter cleans the air intake of small particles before it enters the engine for combustion. Power from the Kawasaki engine reaches the wheels after first passing through a hydrostatic transmission system. This hydrostatic transmission make the lawn mower an automatic, giving it infinite gears when traveling forward and infinite gears for when it’s reversing also.

The John Deere LX186 is started with a 12 volt battery key start ignition. There are 2 different mower decks that work the JD LX186. The first is a smaller mower deck with a 38 inch cutting width. The larger mower deck has a cutting width of 38 inches. Most people tend to collect the cut clippings in an optional bagger attachment attached to the rear of the machine. However, you also have the option of using a mulching plug. This means that the grass clipping pretty much get cut up into a pulp and decompose very quickly, releasing their nutrients back into the soil. The final and easiest option is just to discharge the clippings out the discharge chute on the side of the machine.

The John Deere LX186 has halogen headlights built into the hood of the machine allowing you to operate it when it’s dark outside. This is fantastic as you are also able to get a snowblower attachment for it and so can clear snow from your driveway during the winter, even at nighttime. Front blades can also be attached to the JD LX186 to help clear debris.
