John Deere LA115

The John Deere LA115 lawnmower is a part of the 100 series of lawn mowers that were built by John Deere for a period of 2 years from 2008 until 2010. The JD LA115 is the bigger version of the John Deere LA110 while the John Deere LA120 is the upgraded version of this model. The engine powering this lawn mower is designed and built by Briggs and Stratton. It’s a 1 cylinder engine with a displacement of 0.5 liters and a power output of 19.5 hp. The power from the engine is then routed into the wheels using a hydrostatic transmission that means there is no need for a gear stick to change gears. Instead you just have 2 pedals; 1 for traveling forwards and 1 for reversing. The harder you press the pedals, the faster you go, easy!

The John Deere LA115 is quite agile in tight areas with a turning radius of just 0.46 m (18 inches) which makes it perfect for people with gardens that aren’t perfectly square. The mower deck on the JD LA115 has a cutting width of 42 inches and is constructed from 12 gauge steel. The mower deck can be adjusted from 1 inch in height above the ground to 4 inches above ground level. The mower deck has 13 different heights which means that you will practically always find the height you want for your lawn. The actual blade is powered by a manual PTO.

The wheelbase of the John Deere LA115 comes in at 1.24 m (49 inches) while it is 1.78 m (70 inches) long without attachments. Even though the mower deck has a cutting width of 42 inches, when it’s attached to the JD LA115 it gives the machine a total width of 1.32 m (52 inches). The garden tractor lawn mower weighs in at 205 kg (450 lbs). You will also be glad to know that this lawn mower comes with a 2 year warranty, so if you do experience problems with it, you are covered for the first 24 months. 1. Terrance Reiber says:

Mower is very agile, turns on a dime. Cuts well, good gas mileage. Paint peels off. Difficult to level the mowing bed, I got it to a point where it’s okay but not great. Grease nipples can be hard to get at for servicing. All in all, a good to very good product but not excellent IMO.

    Year of Manufacture: 2010
Pros: Turns on a dime. Cuts well.
Cons: Paint peels off. Hard to level the deck
    Attachments: Spreader. Leaf catcher. Wagon
    Modifications: None

  2. Kerry says:

I grew up with John Deereā€™s had a 55 series riding lawnmower
Also a Lx176 now I have a La115 as well a John Deere liquidfire snowmobile in the 70s the best I had little issues but they never let me down

    Year of Manufacture: 0
Pros: Nothing runs like a deere

  3. Fred Bradford says:

Bought from Lowes in 2010 when I retired to the TX. gulf coast. My first riding mower, needed for my 3/4 acre lot. Just ordered a new deck. The org. one rusted through (not garage kept). Other than that, in 10 yrs., 1 each- battery, spark plug, air filter, fuel filter.
Considered buying a new one but don’t like the “Easy oil change” price. So I’ll air up that front rt tire that keeps going flat and keep rolling.

    Year of Manufacture: 2010
    Pros: Clean, even cuts
Cons: Low back seat. Not enough support over a gopher hole filled yard.
    Attachments: Grass catcher, trailer

  4. Bill Boyce says:

Too many issue with this tractor to mention.

Do not buy this or in my opinion any John Deere, they just do not have good product based on their name which they are riding on. It’s all Chinese made shit. Their product quality is falling fast. Don’t pay top dollar for a bottom dollar product.

    Year of Manufacture: 2009
    Pros: Cuts grass
Cons: The bagger attachment doesn’nt work worth shit and the engine blows up from known head gasket issues.

  5. Kerrie Cassem says:

I have cut grass as high as a foot high with no problems on an adjacent 1/2 acre lot to my property. This was a one time occurance, I tried to not let it get over 3″

    Year of Manufacture: 9
Pros: Nothing runs like a deere and John and I have established quite a relationship since 2008.
I bought my JD LA115 new and am amazed with everything about it.
I have an acre property and this JD makes my lawn mowing a relaxing and effortless experience. I also have a trailer I pull around picking up lawn debris and moving heavy items around. Honestly, I cannot imagine not have John in my life.
I have only replaced the battery one time and make sure to do the oil chance/Maintenance.
Cons: The paint on the mower deck has chipped off in a few places (but it is not the end of the world). The machine still looks brand new after all these years. I will probably add touch up paint to the deck just to have that looks new look.

  6. Steve Travelstead says:

I always dreamed of owning a John Deere, and after this one having the paint chip of in chunks I’d never own another one. I just bought a Cub Cadet, and in every way it out does the Deere. I am no longer a John Deere man.

    Year of Manufacture: 2008
Pros: Motor has held up with no problems. Deck spindles and such have been very reliable.
Cons: Throws three to four mowing belts off each year at $35.00 each. This mower does not cut good, and at corners it really does bad. After three garage stored years, the paint started peeling off in big chunks, and it looks like Chevrolet painted it!
