The John Deere L120 lawn mower is from the JD L100 series of ride on tractor lawn mowers. Smaller models include the John Deere L100 lawn mower and John Deere L110 lawnmower. There are also larger models that include the John Deere L130 tractor lawn mower. However for the purpose of this overview, we are only going to be focusing on the JD L120. Like all the other models in the L100 series, the John Deere L120 was manufactured and produced in the Horicon assembly plant located in Wisconsin.

The John Deere L120 tractor lawn mower is powered by one of two engines. Either a Briggs and Stratton CV40 gasoline engine or a Briggs and Stratton 40 engine that’s also powered by gasoline. The CV40 is a 2 cylinder air cooled engine that produces 20 horsepower, while the 40 engine is also a 2 cylinder engine that’s air cooled. The 40 is 0.7 liters in size and produces 2 horsepower more than the CV40 giving it a power output of 22 hp. The tractor has been built around a 4×2 2WD chassis and has a very good 0.46 m (18 inches) turning radius making it ideal for gardens that have many small awkward areas of grass that need cutting.

Like on most of this series’, the John Deere L120 uses a Tuff Torq HD K46 hydrostatic transmission so that it doesn’t need a gearstick. Instead it’s got infinite gears controlled directly by the foot pedals allowing for smoother operation. The JD L120’s top speed comes in at 8.8 kph (5.5 mph). It comes with fairly big 22 inch back wheels making operation very smooth indeed. The L120 has three options for dealing with cut grass. The easiest is to discharge it to the side of the cutting deck, while you also have the option of mulching it or collecting it to a bagger. The mower deck that comes as standard with the L120 is 48 inches wide.
