John Deere L100

The John Deere L100 ride on lawn mower is the entry level garden tractor in JD’s L100 series. It was built and produced by JD for just 2 years from 2003 until 2005. All production of this model took place in JD’s assembly plant in Horicon, Wisconsin. The 4×2 2WD chassis houses a 17 horsepower Briggs and Stratton gasoline engine. This 1 cylinder engine has a 0.5 liters in size and uses both a paper and foam based air filter to clean the air intake. This engine has a oil pan that needs to be filled with 1.4 liters of oil to keep it properly lubricated at all times. Larger models in the L100 series include the John Deere L110 lawnmower, the John Deere L120 lawn mower and the John Deere L130.

This engine feeds power into a transmission box that gives the John Deere L100 5 gears when it’s traveling forward and just 1 when it’s reversing. This transmission gives the JD L100 a top speed of 10.3 kph (6.4 mph) while it can reach 3.7 kph (2.3 mph) when it’s reversing. Thanks to it’s design, this garden tractor has a very low minimum turning radius of just 0.46 m (18 inches). The JD L100 weighs in at just 209 kg (462 lbs) which makes it very light when you compare it to other John Deere lawnmowers. It has a width of 0.91 m (36 inches) and is 1.52 m (60 inches) long.

The gas tank on the John Deere L100 can hold a maximum of just 7.9 liters (2.1 US gallons) of gasoline, but as the engine is relatively small, this 7.9 liters should last you quite a while, provided you haven’t given it too much choke. The JD L100 uses John Deere’s very useful CargO Mount system for both it’s front and rear attachments meaning that you can quickly and easily add attachments without much effort. Thanks to this CargO Mount system, it is compatible with a massive range of attachments from utility carts to shovels, sweepers, front blades, mid mounted blades, a bagger with an 8 bushel capacity and many more.

    It’s fine for cutting my 3/4 acres. Dose it quite quickly.
    The build leaves a lot to be proud about. Lots of flimsy plastic.
    The plastic bolts on the hood that are mounded as part of the hood have broken. It’s change the hood or drill and bolt it to the internal bars..I prefered the drilling option..looks quite good though..

    Pros: Cheap on fuel, starts first time, easy to use.
    Cons: The engine cover (plastic) has plastic hood arm bolts that have broken.

    I bought this mower used 2years ago. when i got their was an oil leak with the alluminum cover that says OHV. i just tightend the boults and then it was fine I used it for mowing 1/2 of an acre ind it held up nice. the following year i would help my uncle mow grass at houses that were foreclosed. (That put some wear and tear on it) but it still held its ground. My uncle knowing that I like to fix up peaces of crap got my a crappy Craftsman. Its fixed now and I use it to cup the grass at my house, but before I fixed it i was using my john deere both commecally and residentually. i want shure if it could handle it or not but i was really surprised that it did. and it still starts and runs as good as it did when i first got (counting out the oil leak) at the end of the season when i was running fuel stabbilizer through it i noticedc that the oil leak started again. so when its warn enough im going to replace the gasket. but other than that I really like this mower and i would highly recoment john deere to anyone.
    NOTHING RUNS LIKE A DEERE 🙂

    Pros: plenty of power, deck its pretty heave duty, more heaver duty than my older craftsman which is a 91.
