John Deere JA62

The John Deere JA62 walk behind lawn mower is very similar to the John Deere JX75 walk behind lawnmower as both have an aluminum deck. The also both have the same cutting width which is 21 inches. When you are operating the JD JA62, many people tend to use the 2.5 bushel bagger attachment to collect the grass clippings to keep their lawn looking neat and tidy. However, if you are in a rush or have nowhere to put the grass clippings, then you should consider the optional mulcher attachment which will turn the grass clippings into a fast rotting and nutritious mulch. Alternatively you can just discharge the grass clippings straight onto your lawn. Just remember though that if the grass is very long, then it will make your lawn look quite ugly.

The John Deere JA62 has 2 speeds. It also has an operator presence system which will shut down the engine if you are not holding on. This system has saved countless hands. The height of the mower deck on the JD JA62 can be adjusted through 3 inches, from a low of 0.5 inches above the ground to a high of 3.5 inches above the ground. There is an adjusting lever on both the front and back wheels for this.

The engine that powers the John Deere JA62 is a Briggs and Stratton. This is a 4 stroke motor with overhead valves. The total displacement of the Briggs and Stratton comes to 0.189 liters. To start the engine you simply need to pull on the pull cord. Unfortunately the JD JA62 does not have a key starting mechanism. Have you ever used the JA 62 lawn mower? If you have previously used this walk behind lawnmower then please leave a review below outlining what you think of it.

One Review of the “John Deere JA62”

  1. Monsoon says:

Overall great mower and love that rear wheel drive on hills! Engine is well designed for long life. Do not buy mowers with aluminum cylinder walls, your’re throwing your money away ! Most JD mowers at Home Depot or Lowes do not have the OHV design like the Intek series (21-JUN-2011). The only weak point on this mower is the carburetor. New carburetors can be bought at your JD stealership or amazon.com. Same goes for the carburetor rebuild kits.

    Year of Manufacture: 2004
Pros: Powerful engine, best engine in its class, cast-iron cylinder, Overhead valves, B+S Intek 8.75 engine series, high altitude jet available, quick starts most of the time, aluminum deck. REAR WHEEL DRIVE !
Cons: Somewhat heavy, carburetor is the only weak point. If you have difficult starting this engine carburetor is most likely fault and needs to be rebuilt. OEM carburetor may have better quality than a replacement carb (too many plastic pieces).
Modifications: The Intek Pro Series engine has an oil filter this one does not. You can place a small magnet on the drain plug and catch most metal particles in the engine oil extending the life of the engine with recommended oil changes. I use the recommended B+S 30w oil (Lowes) with great results.
