    The John Deere D120 is a part of John Deere’s 2011 ‘100 series’. These are the entry range of ride on lawn mowers from JD. The JD 120 is the next model up from the John Deere 110, while it’s still smaller than the John Deere D130. This lawnmower gets it’s power from a 1 cylinder, Briggs and Stratton model 33, gasoline engine that has natural aspiration. The engine produces a very fair 21 hp from it’s 0.5 liter size. Although it is started via a 12 volt battery, the engine is air cooled. The engine needs 1.4 liters of oil to make sure that it remains fully lubricated. The 12 V battery is charged with a 9 amp alternator.

    As the John Deere D120 is not a particularly big machine, it does not use power steering. A Kansaki Tuff Torq T40 hydrostatic transmission gives the JD D120 unlimited speeds in both forwards and in reverse. The speed is controlled via 2 pedals; one for traveling forwards and one for traveling in reverse. Going forward, this garden tractor has a top speed of 8.8 kph (5.5 mph). The fuel tank on this sit on lawn mower has a 9.1 liter (2.4 US gallon) capacity, which may not seem like a lot when compared to larger lawn mowers, but it more than adequate for many hours of continuous operation.

    The front tires on the John Deere D120 measure 15×6-6 (15 inches diameter, 6 inches wide, 6 inches diameter for rims) while the rear wheels measure 20×8-8 (20 inches diameter, 8 inches wide, 8 inches diameter for rims). The mower deck on the lawn mower has a cutting width of 42 inches. When the mower deck is attached to the lawn mower, it’s gives it an overall width of 1.32 m (52 inches). The length of the machine without any attachments (bagger, snow blower, etc.) is 1.78 m (70 inches).       Year of Manufacture: 2012
      Pros: Small, good steering
      Cons: Deck is not a easy follow the land, the motor seems to air lock stopping the starter to turn motor to start, I have to turn the motor backward to unlock motor to start it, the machine only has 33 hours on it

      Has been good – had the mover since July 2012.

      Pros: Padded seat is great!

      Mows great when the entire blade is intact. I took of about 3 inches of the blade going over a hidden rock,

      Easy maintenance, but this year has been a very wet year and 50 hrs comes quickly!
      Cons: I don’t use a bag but the side chute clogs often when grass is a little wet.

      The tractor could use some suspension springs as I use it to cut grass on uneven terrain at the farm.
      Modifications: A suspension for people using the tractor on uneven terrain

      I own the D120 which is very close to the John Deere D110/ I have the 21hp as opposed to the 17.5
      However, I purchased this machine to cut grass…..PERIOD !
      It does it, and it does it very well.
      Yes the deck wasn’t leveled properly when I received it, but if you take the time to read your owners manual, it’ explains 2 ways on how to adjust it, which is very simple to do if you own a wrench. If you don’t own a wrench,…..welll, God bless ya, and follow you where ever you may go.
      This is one kick-_ss little lawn tractor, and I’m hoping she’ll continue to give my years of good ole John Deere reliability. Like they say, “Nothing runs like a Deere”

      I haven’t made my mind up yet.

      Pros: I traded in a LT133 I bought in 1999 so the D120 was quite the change. I used it for the first time today and found the power good,the noise of the engine was alot less than my other mower. The turing radius was good. But thats where it ends.
      Cons: The design team must be the same ones that designed the bag system on my LT133. It does’t clog as easy as the 133 but it will clog. The gas tank cap is placed uder the seat so when you have to fill it you have to hold your gas can above the mower and if you have a bagger this makes it diffcult to fill the tank. Then we come to the deck ajustment handle placed on the left side of the mower where the gas cap used to be that made it easy to fill the tank. The handle will give you a good goose gettig on and off the mower if you have a bagger attached as this is the only side to get off and on.
      Modifications: The bagger chute needs a air flow indicator on it like they used to have
