The John Deere 8770 tractor is an articulated 4×4 4WD machine from the John Deere 8070 series that is designed specifically for crop/tillage farmers/contractors that need a lot of power for pulling huge implements and machinery. The JD 8770 is the successor of the John Deere 8760 tractor. The 8770 had a production run that lasted for a total of 4 years from 1993 up until 1996, when production on it finished up. All production of the tractor took place in the Waterloo plant which is located in Iowa. The tractor comes with a cab as standard and uses hydraulic wet disc brakes for speeding up and slowing down.

The John Deere 8770 tractor uses a JD built turbocharged engine to power the wheels. This engine is a 6 cylinder model that uses a liquid cooling system to prevent it from overheating. The engine has a total volume of 10.1 liters. It fires at a compression ratio of 15.75 to 1. The engine uses a combination of an aspirator and a dual paper air filter which purifies the air intake, stopping small particulate matter from getting into the combustion chambers where it can potentially damage the engine and lower it’s performance. The engine powers the hydraulic system on the tractor which powers the rear hitch.

The John Deere 8770 articulated tractor uses either a Syncro, a PowrSync or a Power Shift gearbox to allow the driver to control how fast the JD 8770 travels at. The Syncro transmission gives the driver 12 forward and 3 reverse gears. The PowrSync gearbox gives the driver 24 forward and 6 reversing gears. The JD Power Shift transmission gives the tractor 12 forward and 3 reversing speeds. All three gearboxes use a hydraulic wet disc clutch for changing gears. If you are looking for larger models of this tractor, then you should take a look at either the John Deere 8870 or the John Deere 8970 tractors.
