The John Deere 8310R tractor gets it’s power from a large PowerTech PSX engine that is manufactured by John Deere themselves. This engine is a 6 cylinder diesel that features dual turbochargers and provides 310 hp. The engine is liquid cooled by a system that requires 41 liters of coolant. The engine is kept lubricated by a pressurized system that has a capacity to hold up to 27.9 liters of oil. Using this machine in cold weather is just as easy as in warm weather thanks to the option of either an engine block (pre)heater or a ether (pre)heating system.

There are 2 gear boxes that come with the John Deere 8310R as standard. One is a PowerShift transmission that provides the JD 8310R with 16 speeds when traveling forwards, but only 4 for when it’s reversing. If you are not happy with this gearbox, you can always opt for the infinitely variable transmission that gives the tractor unlimited speeds going forward as well as in reverse, making it an automatic. The engine drives the wheels, but it also powers the hydraulics system. The hydraulics system on this tractor is a closed center pressure flow compensated one which operates at a pressure of 200 bar (2900 psi).

There are a number of tractors in the 8R range, the John Deere 8310R being one of them. Others in the range include the John Deere 8335R, John Deere 8260R and the John Deere 8285R tractors. One of the nice things about this range of tractors is that when you are buying one of them brand new, you can order a heap of optional extras. Obviously ballast is one of these, but there is also others, such as a number of lighting set ups so that you can operate it in the dark as well as a radar that measures true ground speed very accurately. It’s also able to use a front end loader.
