The John Deere 4255 row crop tractor is part of a series of 6 row crop tractors that includes the John Deere 4455 and the John Deere 4955 tractors. This tractor stopped getting produced in 1992, but thanks to it’s reliability and solid construction, it is still fairly popular today. The JD 4255 was built in 2 factories, in the Waterloo facility in Iowa and in the Saltillo facility which is located in Mexico. The 4255 is marketed towards row crop farmers but due to it’s ability to work with a range of attachments like the John Deere 840, it is popular among other users too.

The John Deere 4255 gets it’s power from a turbocharged engine that is designed and built by John Deere themselves. This is a liquid engine with 6 cylinders. If fires at a compression ratio of 16:1 and has a total displacement of 7.6 liters. The engine has a dual paper air filter which the air intake first passes through before entering the engine. This filters out dust and other particles that could disrupt the combustion process or even damage the engine. The total power output from the engine is 128 hp.

This engine on the John Deere 4255 powers the 3 point hitch, which is a category 2 model. The hitch has a max lifting capacity of 2800 kg (6175 lbs), but this can be increased with a lift assist cylinder to 3663 kg (8077 lbs). The rear hitch is powered by the hydraulics system. The hydraulics system also powers the power steering mechanism. There is also a variation of the JD 4255, the John Deere 4255 Hi Crop. The Hi Crop is practically identical except for the fact that it has a very high ground clearance of 0.88 m (34.8 inches). If you are looking for a machine that is not quite as powerful, then the John Deere 4055 row crop tractor may be of interest to you.
