The John Deere 4200 is a compact utility tractor designed and built by the folks at JD over a 3 year period from 1998 until 2001. However once production on the 4200 finished, the John Deere 4210 model that took over from it. The engine on the JD 4200 is a 3 cylinder, diesel Yanmar engine. It has a displacement of 1.2 liters and a maximum power output of 26 hp. The engine is liquid cooled.  It transmits power via a choice of transmissions. Either through a collar shift transmission that gives it 9 forward gears and 3 in reverse or through a hydrostatic transmission which gives it an infinite number of forward and reverse gears. Just as their is a choice of transmission on the John Deere 4200, so too is there a choice of chassis. You can opt for either the 4×2 2WD version or the 4×4 MFWD 4×4 version.

The diesel tank holds 37.9 liters (US gallons) of diesel. It has a rear PTO that comes standard with the 4200 and a category 1, 3 point hitch. There is also the option of a mid PTO which is very handy if you are ever considering attaching a mower deck to this machine. The John Deere 4200 comes with a roll bar as standard, but you could also opt for a cab if you plan on using this tractor in unfavorable conditions.

The JD 4200 weighs in at 1088 kg (2400 lbs) and so is a true compact. Like pretty much all modern compacts that John Deere produce, the JD 4200 has the ability to work with many different attachments, from box scrapers to backhoes to mowing decks to snowblowers/snow throwers.
