John Deere 322

The John Deere 322 lawnmower is a very popular model from the late eighties and early nineties that remains immensely popular today. This John Deere mower enjoyed a production run of 4 years from 1988 when it first started to roll off the production lines in Horicon, Wisconsin until 1992 when production on the JD 322 ceased. A robust Yanmar 3TN66UJ engine is used to power the mower forward and turn the blades on the mower deck. This 3 cylinder, gasoline engine has a displacement of 0.658 liters and uses a liquid cooling system to prevent overheating. The total power output from the engine is 18 hp.

This power is transferred into forward motion through a hydrostatic transmission that gives the John Deere 322 unlimited speeds traveling forward and when reversing. One of the major drawbacks to the JD 322 is the simple fact that it’s turning radius is very large. It comes in at 0.64 m (25 inches). Fortunately JD has addressed this and now newer models have a much reduced turning radius.

Fortunately the John Deere 322 has many great attachments and implements that are compatible with it. You can use snowblowers, front blades and many rear mounted attachments such as scarifiers, scrapers and utility carts. Obviously you can also attach a utility cart to the back of the JD 322 lawnmower. If you are looking for other similar models in the 300 series, then take a look at the John Deere 330 or the John Deere 332 lawnmowers. These are very similar but popular models. All in all, if you have the opportunity to acquire one of these mowers, then it will be worth you while if you can confirm that it hasn’t had any serious problem with previous owners. Even though it’s an older model, you will see it very regularly in use during the summer time.
