John Deere 1445
The John Deere 1445 commercial front mower is a much more powerful model when compared to the John Deere 1420 and the John Deere 1435 front lawn mowers. However it still has the same sized mower decks that can be attached to it. These are a front mounted 60 inch 7 Iron II mowing deck, a 62 inch 7 Iron II mower deck or a 72 inch 7 Iron II mower deck. These decks on the JD 1445 are all designed for commercial use, having been constructed from 7 gauge steel. They also have made the deck very deep (5.5 inches) so that it doesn’t get choked up easily and can handle very long grass without getting overloaded.
The great thing about these mower decks used on the John Deere 1445 is that they are fabricated from stamp steel, which means only the minimum amount of welds and bolted connections are present. This helps to dissipate stress without it concentrating on welded or bolted connections when it hits a solid object. On the leading edge of the mower deck, you will find 4 small plastic wheels. The purpose of these wheels is to keep the mower deck from catching the ground and potentially scalping it, leaving ugly bald marks on your lawn.
The engine that powers both the blades and the wheels, driving the machine forward is a Yanmar which produces 31 hp. This is a 3 cylinder diesel engine that’s liquid cooled. The 12 volt battery used when keystarting this mower is recharged via a 55 amp alternator. Fortunately there are no gears for the operator to be constantly playing with. Instead the mower has a hydrostatic transmission which means you just need to use to 2 foot pedals to either go forwards or reverse. Making tight turns with the JD 1445 is relatively easy thanks to a foot activated differential lock.
