Husqvarna LTH18538

The Husqvarna LTH18538 lawn mower is one of the smaller models from Husqvarna. It has a small engine that produces 18.5 hp and a mower deck with a cutting width of  just 38 inches. Similar but larger models that the LTH 18538 include the Husqvarna YTH2042 tractor lawnmower and the Husqvarna GTH26V52LS tractor lawn mower. However this review is on the LTH 18538, so we’ll stick with that. The 18.5 hp engine is from the PowerBuilt range from Briggs & Stratton. It is small in size with a displacement of just 0.5 liters and is air cooled. As the engine is fairly small, the fuel tank is correspondingly small, capable of holding only 5.7 liters (1.5 US gallons) of gasoline.

There is no gear changing needed on the Husqvarna LTH18538 as it’s an automatic. This is thanks to a Tuff Torq hydrostatic transmission which give this mower a top speed of 8.4 kph (5.2 mph). The 38 inch mower deck is belt driven and has not 1, but 2 blades. Sitting on the front of the mower deck are 2 small wheels. The purpose of these tiny wheels is to guide the mower deck over any bumps or unevenness on the ground, thus preventing the mower deck for hitting into the ground and potentially leaving unsightly scars.

The tires on the Husqvarna LTH18538 garden tractor are large enough so as not to leave any marks on the ground as it travels. Each front tire measures 15×6-6 (15 inch diameter, 6 inch width and 6 inch rim diameter) while each rear wheels measures 20×8-8 (20 inch diameter, 8 inch width, 8 inch rim diameter). The total weight of this 18.5 hp, 38 inch Husqvarna lawnmower is 178.3 kg (393 lbs) and it has a wheelbase of 1.22 m (48 inches). This is a very useful lawnmower if you have a large garden to mow and is definitely popular among a lot of users.

I see the poo poo reviews…takes effort to leave a positive review, had for 2.5 years and runs-cuts like a champ

    Year of Manufacture: 2015
Pros: No issues, 90 hours and gets it done
Cons: safety feature….key in reverse with blade, overkill
    Attachments: trailer- works great!
    Modifications: NA

  2. ROB says:

I wouldn’t buy another unless the foot pedal and gas fill problems were corrected.

    Year of Manufacture: 2016
Pros: No problems up until this year 2020. Auto brake when pedal is released good for hills.
Cons: Right pedal to activate drive is too high. Poor design on gas tank filler. Won’t take much of a cut on aside hill. Feels unstable.
    Attachments: None. Just mower deck.
    Modifications: None.

  3. Steve Timmons says:

It has been nothing but trouble since I purchased the mower. There is a rod that runs from the front of the mower deck and attaches to the front frame of the mower with a large nut that keeps working lose causing the front of the deck of the mower to drop unexpectedly. I just had is serviced which cost me over $400 and when they backed it off the truck, the motor locked up and appears to be the valves. This mower is only 2 years old and I perform routine maintenance throughout the summer. I am very dissatisfied with this mower and would not recommend it to anyone.

    Year of Manufacture: 0
    Pros: None
Cons: It is a bad mower.

  4. David Vork says:

y poorly built. Bad height adjustment. By far worst piece of lawn equipment I have ever owned!

    Year of Manufacture: 2015

Cons: Transmission belt won’t stay on.
