Cub Cadet FMZ50 SD

The Cub Cadet FMZ50 SD zero turn lawn mower does not look like most regular zero turn lawnmowers. Instead of 4 wheels, which most zero turn mowers have, the FMZ50SD has 6 wheels in total (not including the small anti scalping wheels attached to the deck). The rear wheels steer the lawn mower. These each measure 15×6 (15 inch diameter, 6 inch width). The middle set of wheels drive the lawnmower forward. These each measure 20×10 (20 inch diameter, 10 inch width). The front set of wheels are mounted ahead of the mower deck. These are the castor wheels whose main job it is to keep the deck above the lawn and allow the mower to turn easily.

The engine that powers both the wheels and the mower deck on the Cub Cadet FMZ50 SD is a twin cylinder Kawasaki that has overhead valves. This engine has a total power output of 22 hp. Power is transferred to large middle wheels on the lawn mower using two, HG 2800 hydrostatic transmissions. This system means that there is no gear changing required to change speeds on the FMZ50-SD and gives it a top speed of 9kph (5.6 mph) going forwards, while it can reach 4.5 kph (2.8kph) when it’s reversing. As the rear wheels are responsible for the steering, this is what allows you to make zero radius turns.

The mower deck on the Cub Cadet FMZ50 SD has a cutting width of 50 inches. The deck is floating and inside it, there is 3 blades. The deck can be lowered down to within 1 inch above the ground and raised up to 4.5 inches above the ground. In total there are 6 different cutting heights, each of which varies by roughly 0.5 inches. If you are looking for a model like the FMZ50SD, but that is smaller, then you should take a look at the Cub Cadet FMZ42 SD zero turn lawn mower.
