There are 2 distinct Cub Cadet CC98 self propelled walk behind lawn mowers. The first is the Cub Cadet CC98M lawn mower which is manually started with a recoil system that requires you to pull on the cord a few times to get it ticking over. The Cub Cadet CC98H walk behind lawn mower is started by a choice of either a pull cord recoil system or an ARCS system. Besides the starting system, both lawn mowers are very similar. The engine used to power both mowers is a 0.173 liter gasoline engine designed and built by Cub Cadet. This is the same engine that you’ll find on Cub Cadet CC46ES and the Cub Cadet CC94M lawn mowers.

The mower deck on the Cub Cadet CC98 self propelled, walk behind lawn mowers has a cutting width of 21 inches and is fabricated from steel. Housed inside is a CycloCut mowing system that consists of just one blade. This mower deck on the CC 98 can be adjusted from a low of 1 inch above the ground to up to 3.5 inches above the ground. You can adjust the height of the mower through both the front and rear wheels on this mower.

When the Cub Cadet CC98 walk behind lawnmower is actually in use, the operator has 3 choices for dealing with the grass after it’s been mowed. The first and easiest is to just spit it out the side. The second is to mulch it (i.e. cut it up really finely). The third option is to use the 2.5 bushel bagger that comes with the CC 98 to collect the grass clippings and dispose of them in a compost heap or elsewhere. Most people find this mower to be very adequate for cutting their lawns.
