    The Bad Boy MZ48 zero turn lawn mower is the larger model of the Bad Boy MZ42. Both these mowers are from the affordable MZ range from Badboy that are marketed towards individuals as opposed to commercial contractors (even though contractors use the MZ 48 too). The lawn mower has a cutting width of 48 inches. This deck operates over a range of 3 inches, from a low of 1 inch above the ground up to a high of 4 inches above the ground. The deck is raised and lowered with a foot assisted lifting mechanism. The deck is made from 0.125 inch thick steel that will not easily buckle, break or bend. The blades are powered by the engine using a belt drive system.

    The engine powering both the blades and the wheels on the Bad Boy MZ48 zero turn lawn mower is a gasoline powered Briggs and Stratton model that has total displacement of 0.725 liters. The engine is a twin cylinder model and uses a full pressure lubrication system to keep the moving parts fully oiled throughout operation. The engine is started with a key start ignition. Once the engine is running, the battery gets recharged via a 16 amp alternator that is attached to the engine.

    If you are after a lawnmower that can easily handle between 1 and 4 acres of grass, then the Bad Boy MZ48 is for you. It tips the scales at 273.1 kg (602 lbs) making it a lot lighter than most of the other machines from Bad Boy. The total length of the lawn mower is 67.75 inches. The rear wheels on the MZ 48, through which power is transferred each measure 18×9.5-8 (18 inch diameter, 9.5 inch width, 8 inch rim diameter).       I have had no problems with this mower. I am in the middle of my fourth season using it. I enjoy using it, and I don’t hate cutting grass like I used to.

      Year of Manufacture: 2012
      Pros: I am in the 4th season with my Bad Boy. I have to date had no mechanical or maintenance issues with my mower. It cuts fast and it cuts evenly. I only rarely have to slow down because of thick heavy grass. I cut about an acre of lawn with lots of trees and shrubbery to get around. The mower handles my yard with ease. I bought this mower because I HATED cutting grass.. I wanted to get it done and get on to other endeavors. Since getting this mower I find that I don’t mind it so much anymore.
      Cons: You absolutely have to keep the front tires pumped up. At the start of every season I have had to go through the pain of getting the tubeless front tires to inflate and stay that way. This year I put tubes in the front tires. Problem solved.

      Pros: Fast, haven’t had to replace anything but a starter solenoid, mine is a mz 48, but like above said mine clogs up horribly and no matter what I do, still builds up underneath the deck. Tried three different types of blades and still does it, if anyone has a suggestion please email me jlbthompson62@gmail.com thx

      Pros: runs great with kawasaki motor no problems at all
      Cons: deck clogs up bad with or with out moisture and that drives me crazy !!! i like to strip my lawn and it does not leave stripes at all big big diss like and yes i know how to stripe a lawn my encore walk behind dunn a great strip job

      I have had my MZ for a little over a year. It is a great running mower that can tackle most any job when it is working properly. Since I have had it I’ve had to replace the brake cable, weld the deck three times, and replace the deck belt. Right now the drive belt needs replacing, a fan is broke and I need a new deck belt again. This mower has a light to medium workload at best.

      Excellent – I’m sure the mower would hold up to light commercial work and it is perfect for large residential property.

      Year of Manufacture: 2009
      Pros: I’ve used the Bad Boy MZ for two years. I mow an acre of lawn, fairly flat. The mower performs perfectly. Even cut, very fast, ejects even wet grass nicely, easy to control, solid feeling. After two seasons there is nothing that even looks like it is beginning to wear at all.
      Cons: I have three small negatives about the MZ: The gas tank is small (3 gallons) which means I have to fill it every two mowings, an slight inconvenience. The exhaust point straight down at the turf. If I get off the mower and leave it to idle the exhaust browns the grass in about an 12 inche circle. To fix this I put clamped a piece of sheet metal extending out from the exhaust to deflect the hot gasses which solved the problem. The third item is that I’ve had two flats on the front tires. The factory tires are tubeless and a big root can kick them off the rim. I put tubes in the front.
      Attachments: I bought a PackEm catcher off ebay for $169. It works great for leaves and occasional grass pick up. I don’t use it routinely.
